How do you find which court you are in?

• Check the court and date - The Notice of Motion will tell you which court you need to be in and on what date you need to appear.
• Locate the court you need to be at - Your case will be heard in the court nearest to the property in question. In certain cases, you may be called to the High Court. Here is a list the courts in Cape Town.
• Going to the High Court - If your court papers say “High Court” then you need to go to the Cape Town High Court in Keerom Street.

Finding the right courtroom

Evictions are held in Motion Court. Ask a clerk, security officer, or any of the lawyers walking around where the Motion Court is.

• Find your courtroom early - Court buildings are difficult to navigate and badly signposted. Be sure to arrive early enough to allow yourself time to locate the correct courtroom. If you miss your court appearance, you may be evicted!
• Ask for assistance - If there is an information desk, ask them which courtroom evictions are in. If there is no information desk, ask the clerk of the court, any lawyer, security, guard or anyone who looks like they work in the court building.
